Granite FAQs
Will my stone look like the samples?
Since stone is a natural product it will vary in color, tone, granularity, and pattern. These variations are expected and contribute to the uniqueness and natural beauty. Samples you see on the computer have been scanned and due to variations in computer software and monitors, color tones will not always be exact.
Can Granite Crack?
No, not with regular use. Normal use will not overstress this durable material.
How are seams made?
Seams are done where the two pieces of stone are put together. The seams are joined with epoxy that is mixed with the color that matches the stone. Then the joined area is smoothened, leaving only a very thin lie visible.
How much of an overhang can I have without additional support?
You can have up to 14" with sufficient support on the fixed end and with a large enough piece. Never have unsupported granite where it might receive excessive stress like someone sitting on a counter or stepping on a counter to change a light bulb.
Can granite be repaired?
It's very hard to damage granite. If any damage occurs it can be sealed with a mixture of epoxy and grounded up chips of granite.
What is the appropriate thickness for a granite countertop?
A kitchen countertop should be an inch and a quarter (3 cm). Bathroom vanity tops and can thinner - three-quarters of an inch (2cm) or they can be 3 cm.
How often do I need to seal my granite tops?
During installation, we will seal your granite tops using Stojne-Tech Bulletproof sealer. Depending on wear, you should re-seal every two - three years. Using a retivalizer, it will prolong the life of your sealer.
How do I clean my granite tops?
Granite is a very durable stone. Granite will withstand almost any element it comes up against including heat and cold. Granite itself is approximately 95-98% stain resistant but, we use a special revitalizer for cleaning. Soap and water can be used, but built up may occur after time. We recommend using Stone-Tech Revitalizer. It is a cleaner and sealer combination which will keep your polished granite looking new.
How can I use granite?
Granite can be used indoors and outdoors. Here are just a few ways granite is being used today:
